Less than 8% of untreated alcohol dependent people “perceived a need for treatment“.
I’d be interested in what the exact question is and its relationship with problem recognition. How many people perceive a need to change but not treatment.
I imagine the same could be found with obesity. Large numbers of people not seeing themselves as obese (“Sure I could lose a few pounds, but…”) and large numbers of people who recognize they are obese but don’t see a need for any professional help.
I’m also curious how similar numbers may have moved for psychiatric disorders.
